Snežnik Trails 2026 and two records

Črne njive above Ilirska Bistrica once again served as the venue for one of Slovenia’s premier trail running events. Snežnik Trails 2026 welcomed a strong field of runners from Slovenia and abroad, who gathered to experience the unspoiled landscapes of the Snežnik Plateau across four race distances: Bistrška 10ka, Milanja Trail, Kozlek Trail and Snežnik Trail.

The event unfolded in an outstanding atmosphere, supported by dedicated volunteers, enthusiastic spectators and the local community, whose hospitality ensured a memorable experience for all participants. The courses showcased the very essence of trail running, combining demanding technical sections, challenging climbs and fast descents with spectacular scenery. Throughout the routes, runners were rewarded with breathtaking views of Snežnik and the Kvarner Bay, making the event a true celebration of sport, nature and the trail running spirit.

The event programme featured four trail running races of varying distances, offering challenges for both experienced trail runners and newcomers to the sport.

The highlight of this year’s edition was the inaugural Snežnik Trail, a demanding 65 km course with 2.761 metres of elevation gain that took participants all the way to the summit of Snežnik (1.796 m). Runners traversed the vast beech and fir forests of the Snežnik Plateau, experiencing some of the region’s most spectacular natural landscapes.

The programme also included the 17 km Milanja Trail, which once again formed part of the Primorski gorski teki (PGT) series, the 33 km Kozlek Trail, and the event’s longest-standing race, the Bistrška 10ka.

Young athletes were not forgotten, as the children’s races also counted towards both the Leone Cup and the youth division of the Primorski gorski teki series.

While the new Snežnik Trail represented the ultimate endurance challenge of the event, the shorter courses likewise delivered an excellent trail running experience, combining scenic routes, varied terrain and rewarding challenges that continue to draw participants back to Črne njive year after year.

The 2026 edition of Snežnik Trails delivered strong performances across all distances, with several standout results on the inaugural Snežnik Trail and new course records on the shorter routes.

In the first-ever Snežnik Trail (65 km), the initial course records were set by Dunja Selan, who completed the demanding route in 9:20:53, and by last year’s Kozlek Trail winner Anže Sobočan (Salomon Slovenia), who finished in an impressive 7:10:29.

On the Kozlek Trail (33 km), the fastest runners were Aja Kozinc, who completed the course in 3:19:37, and Luka Nedeljković (AK Rika, HR), who took the men’s victory in 2:51:14.

The Milanja Trail (17 km) saw a successful title defence by Uroš Rozman (AK Radovljica), who secured first place with an excellent time of 1:16:25. In the women’s race, Rebeka Petrovčič (AK Pivka) delivered a standout performance, setting a new course record of 1:30:57.

In the 18th edition of the Bistrška 10ka, Urban Hafner (Ad Modri Dirkači) claimed victory in 37:46, while Anja Mikuž (ŠD Nanos Podnanos) set a new course record with a time of 41:20, establishing a strong benchmark for future editions.

After the successful event, the organizers from the Bistrc Running Association expressed their satisfaction with the number of participants, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from runners, and the exceptional atmosphere that defined the entire day. Snežnik Trails thus continues to stand as a celebration of running, movement, and community in the heart of unspoiled nature.
